UPDATED: More on Aaron Lynch leaving Notre Dame

  • It sucks to lose a such a talented palyer, but the kid is obviously very immature. If he wasn't happy and was being coddled its better he leave. Wes' comment about the players not missing him is revealing. I wonder if we move Niklas back to defense now?

  • This isn't good, in a season with SO MANY questions, we just added another one. Lots of new coaches, question mark at QB and, and...

Some people won't, but I would. Maybe someone will step up and surprise, but judging only by those players we've actually had the opportunity to evaluate in game situations, the defensive end rotation is all of KLM and Stephon Tuitt at this point.

With Lynch, the Irish had three proven (or at least promising) options at defensive end. And most coaches will tell you they'd really like to go four-deep (two per end spot) in game situations.

Also, one of the great things about Tuitt was his versatility as a DE/DL. Is he going to be able to be as dynamic without Lynch? This creates a lot of questions at a position where those questions didn't really previously exist. So yeah, I think it's a big deal. But we'll see what happens come Saturdays this fall.

John, I'd respectfully disagree with your assessment. I think that this opens the door for Ishaq to slide into his natural position. Also, it might be an opportunity for Troy Niklas to jump back over to the defensive side of the ball. Plus, with Sheldon Day impressing in camp, ND is still going to be able to put a quality product on the field at DE. Does losing someone with Lynch's ability hurt? Of course, but it's not a doomsday scenario.

One other thing that's been hinted at by anyone in the know...Losing Lynch will improve the chemistry of this team. Sometimes the theory of addition by substraction - even with a very talented player - can be the impetus behind an uprising.

I hate to sound petty, but do not give Lynch any breaks or do him any favors on allowing him to transfer anywhere he chooses. He played with heart last year and I believe gave a solid effort, but his transfer still feels selfish.

He was all about the drama to include his silly penalties at times. I think Mr. Tuitt is clearly a better fit at ND and Tuitt enjoyed the competition with Lynch. Maybe Aaron did not enjoy it so much. I hate to lose him, but it is what it is and I feel for Coach Kelly and his staff.

It would be pretty hypocritical not to let Lynch choose his next destination after taking transfers from Florida State and USC in the past two years. Trying to keep a 19-year-old from finding a situation where he can be happy does not reflect well on a coach or a program, just ask Randy Edsall

A couple prominent former Lynch teammates told me last week they wouldn't be surprised if Lynch left and that he was coddled by the coaching staff since the moment he arrived. It sure sounds as if the coaches tried to do everything they could to keep Lynch around. The players, however, are not going to miss him.

In that case, let's show him the door and fast. The one thing I don't like hearing when it comes to inter-team problems is that one is getting favored over others and it's causing problems with the other guys who are busting their hump just as hard, or harder, than the favored individual.

    Let's rock D-Line, let's rock.

  • This reminds me of my time in the Marine Corps. I spent four years of my life away from family and friends. Nearly two years of that I spent overseas, thousands of miles from the ones I loved. Never for a minute did I regret it though. I enjoyed every minute I had away. Some people just can't do it though. It's sad to see kids these days stuck at home, because of a woman or the fear of being too far away from family. I truly believe that everyone should take the oppurtunity to get away from our normal lives and try something new.

  • Can anyone else under age 20 possibly kick Kelly in the groin. These kids are way too privileged and pampered. "Commitment" should be redacted from the college football dictionary.

Apparently Momma Lynch didn't have as much knowledge or control as we were led to believe.
    Prediction:
Many years from now, an elderly Lynch will sadly reflect on this decision.

  • to be honest, I don't wish him the best in his college football future. Health, yes, success, I couldn't give a sh#t. What nonsense wishing him the best. Just like Greenberry, Sheppard, Darby, etc... you turn your back on my team (and an opportunity the rest of us can only dream of), then I don't wish you any football luck. Call me petty, but call me honest

I agree with you. I hope he goes in the tank. He can pound sand as far as I'm concerned.
