USC Recruiting is a MONSTER!

  • Some amazing numbers from Scout.com

Since 2002 there have been 3 teams that have had an average star rating greater than 4.00: USC, Miami and UF.

Miami did it once in 2002 with a 4.05.
UF did it once in 2007 with a 4.22.

USC has been over that ave. 5 times and this year will make 6!
    2004 - 4.00
    2005 - 4.25
    2006 - 4.17
    2007 - 4.39
    2010 - 4.15
2013 - currently (4.31) their second best average in 11 years.

(Tulsa and Utah St. both ave. 4.00 in 2002 but only had 1 recruit each. Central Fla. had a 4.50 with 2 recruits that same year.)

  • And in the last 3 years, they are 27-11, or averaged 9-4.

Depth is going to be a real issue for them. I am not as high on USC as many others here. You need depth to compete at the highest level. I think this is their best chance for a great year and then they will not win the Pac 10 until after 2015. if then

  • Can't deny the fact that they are hot on the recruiting trail but it's still July.

They can have all the skilled players they want. They dont appear to have numbers in the trenches. Injuries, defections, and recruiting misses could make it difficult for success for years to come. Time will tell......

How easily statistics can be manipulated to make a point!

Lets go back 2 more years!
In the last 5 years USC is 50-14 or averaged 10-3
ND is 32-31 or averaged 6-6

My point wasn't wins and losses but how amazing they have been and continue to be in recruiting regardless of what the obstacle.

They had PC as coach. I don't care as much about recruiting as I do coaching.

Regardless, you don't win without depth. So who cares if a team has a bunch of 5 star RBs/WRs/DBs? Offensive linemen are the hardest to rate out of HS. You need numbers because many just will not develop.

  • First off argue all you want but look at the last 10 National Champions and then look at the correlating recruiting rank of the class and it proves that RECRUITING Matters ALOT!! The talent USC gets is undeniably the best nationally.. Period!! Give me a bunch of 5 stars all day long because the odds of them becoming great are considerably better than those that are 4
    stars and lower..

We as fans can't get excited about highly ranked recruits and rankings and then say it doesn't matter when other schools have tremendous classes and USC's class right now is Undeniably awesome.

Look at the past ten MNC and you will see coaching matters more. for every team that recruited well and won I can give you a team that recruited well and didn't win. Tenn should be a staple in the top 5 if recruiting mattered as much as some of you make out. FSU and Miami as well.

No one is dumb enough to argue recruiting doesn't matter. It just isn't the top priority for a champion. Coaching is. Thus, until Kiffin proves he can coach, which he hasn't up until this point, I am not worried. We just need to take care of our situation. ND has enough talent right now to compete for a MNC the next several years. Whether or not we have the right coach is yet to be seen.

  • I didn't say coaching doesn't matter but don't care if Coach Lombardi rose from the dead if you dont have superior talent you don't win National Championships!! Period...

Tennesse by the way has struggled mighedly to recruit in the top 20 in the last 10 years consistently that's why they aren't what they used to be.. Doesn't help that Fulmer lost his touch and then Tennessee got kinda used and abused by Kiffin.

Miami was dominate in the earlier part of last decades then they got into trouble?

Two good examples that actually prove my point!!

  • Fact of the matter is we have a great recruiting class and so does SC. Give SC credit they have destroyed the recruiting trail this year and have quality at every spot. We just need a few more impact players in this class and we will be fine. 1 or two more would be awesome!

  • They're in the same position ND's in -- they don't have a coach who's proven he can win consistently at this level of competition. One good year, early on, means nothing -- ask Weis and Willingham. I'll get excited about USC's recruiting when I'm sure Kiffen can do something with them. If not, he's just another Zook.

Zook would still be coaching if he were landing the players Kiffen is. As others have said though, USC's depth could offset the blue chippers they are landing

We could only hope that Zook was the coach at USC. It's like Weis' #2 ranked class. That ended well.

People saying this doesn't matter are just being foolish. I am sorry, but this matters, and I think every person on this board would take their (USC's) last 10 seasons, sanctions aside. College football is about athletes, especially when you consider they only have a certain number of hours they can practice and prepare every week. I have heard this from multiple ex-college athletes that excelled at the collegiate level.

  • If this class holds together and stays healthy you might be looking at the Nat. Champs for the 2016/17 seasons.
