I agree... in everything but football.

I agree, and that includes football. The time has come to join a conference. Not only that, but I feel it would lighten our schedule without making it fluffy like SEC non-conference games because I think we'll maintain relationships with schools like Navy, U$C, and scUM.. That is what needs to be done to get us back to perennial BCS-contention as we as fans expect.

ACC if they have to join a conference

I agree with you, dpoore, although I think the BCS and conference tie-in model is done, so conference bids are a moot point.

I think the ACC is the best option, and not just for the FB aspect. As others have stated, its a great profile fit for non-revenue sports (and you could see Darby 2x a year; once in FB and again in track )

Unfortunately, I don't see ND joining the ACC; its Big East or bust, and not for the bid. Folks I have talked to via twitter (beat writers and the like) suggest that a reason (not the only reason, but a contributing factor) for ND staying in the Big East is b/c of the large concentration of Catholic Schools (yes, I know they are of different Orders). They seem to think that ND would not like to leave them hanging (some may recall there was a groundswell of support for the Catholic Big East Schools to form their own bball only conference). Their appears to be a sentiment among the Catholic schools to try and stay together.

Just what I have heard...

I'm not gonna jump off the bridge if we join a conference. I know all the pros and cons but I would like and wish we able to stay Independant. I know it might not mean the same as it used too but I still think it does.
