WAY OT: anybody on this board do a lot of fishing locally?

Just wondering, looking for some new places to fish in the south bend or southwest Michigan area.

I pulled some hogs out of St. Mary's Lake when I was a student at ND. Me and my friends would just go and cast off the shore. Pretty fun, but not all that serious. Some solid bass though.

St. Mary's lake is a gem. As a student I would walk around the shore while they were spawning and hammer them. The biggest largemouth bass I've ever seen was in that lake, although I'm from Minnesota so our bass don't get all that huge. I thought it was a big carp until my buddy pointed it out, just cruising along in a couple feet of water. If I make it back to campus in the spring anytime soon I'll be bringing my rod and reel.

I know plenty of places in South Florida if you're ever in the area. Caught this jem down the road from my house.

If you want some nice fish I would look at the salmon and steelhead fishing in the St Joes and the walleye that is in the Elkhart. If you want to take a drive the Vermillion in Ohio is a really good steelhead stream in the spring.

Not sure if the University still requires a license to fish the campus lakes but a number of years ago Brother Frank got me a ND fishing license. I still have that license as a nice keepsake.

I fish in New Jersey,In our lakes we mainly pull out wise guys who got out of line.I know some good spots if anyone is interested

Wawasee and Syracuse are good lakes up north for bass. Docks and break lines depending on weather.
Koontz lake is a tremendous bass lake. Rattle trap on top of the grass in summer or flukes. In spring, power worms on edge of lilly pads.
Lake Manitou in Rochester is a really good bass lake. Rattle trap, spinner bait or top water. Early spring, hit the channels with a suspending stick bait. Every cast almost.
Webster has nice muskie, but I don't fish there often.
I live on the Tippecanoe river. Some of the best fishing around. Smallmouth, walley, pike and now muskie. Small river, great fishing.
