While I don't like lumping a whole group for the actions of some, the most obnoxious fans I've ever seen up here were Ohio State's in 1996.

Back in 1977, when Notre Dame escaped Death Valley in Clemson for a 21-17 win en route to the national title, I always remember what All-America linebacker Bob Golic said. He could be as fun-loving and rambunctious as anyone, but he was genuinely taken aback (reportedly, there were some death threats on Coach Dan Devine) and said, "Football is just a game. I think some of these people here think of it as more than that." That's when I thought, "Wow, it must have been really bad."

Louis Nix recently said the exact thing. Quite a few ND fans didn't agree.

  • My opinion here is based on my time in the ND marching band. I would have to respect Tennessee the most. Didnt have one bad experience with one fan when we traveled there in 2004. They enjoyed us being there and interacted with us the way a ND fan would. I would have to respect michigan and purdue the least. Purdue was mainly students than average fans. When our busses arrived on campus, plenty of students came out of frat houses giving us the finger and chucking beer bottles at the busses. Everyone at michigan was terrible when we traveled there in 2003. Constant screaming and profanity at us and trying to rip parts of out umiforms off and getting right up in our faces as we marched to the stadium.
