According to Eifert's father he will be back at ND next season and is already apartment shopping with his roommates.

I also believe that Cwynar is in the locks for a 5th year.

Oh man, that is great news.

That really helps the Offense. That kid dominates.

And when faced with a choice between Eifert and Te'o, I picked Te'o. It sure doesn't mean I wanted him to go. Would be ecstatic to have him on the roster next year.

    Go Irish!

Eifert would still has 2 years of eligibility left correct? I think the discussion of Eifert leaving after this year needs to go away. I would bet both my nuts he will be back next year.

    Risky bet!!

Did Teo tell you that personally?

  • mbdlaw,

That has always been my understanding too. The scholarship holds for all four years (barring expulsion for egregious conduct). If a football career is ended prematurely to injury, for example, then to open up the football scholarship, the grant-in-aid is maintained from an overall university fund.

I would think that would be a strong selling point to anyone.

Doc, it's just one of many "strong selling points" for the Irish. The Irish are a few short years from magical things happening, recruiting being just one of many. With reference to what some other schools do with their 'meat on cleats", this article and video paint a very bleak picture.

  • Keep the three absolutes and cut ties with the rest. Ragone isn't needed especially with the likely addition of Taylor McNamara. I think Eifert stays and Teo is gone.

  • I'm scratching my head on any discussion of Mike Ragone, who may be the most over-hyped and underperforming (vs. the hype and continued fan support) of any player in recent memory. I"m sure he's a great person, but he dropped way too many passes during his tenue (when he could even make the field) to be given a '6th' year.

Ragone is just an insurance policy if Eifert moves on.

Once Tyler is in the fold, I think Ragone quietly will move to the next phase of his career.

Thanks for all you did and the sacrifices you made, Mike. Hopefully your injuries heal and you have no permanent effects.

Is there any potential for him being granted a 6th year by the NCAA and then moving on to play next year some place else while trying to pursue masters degree?

That's basically what Dan Wenger did this past year while playing for Florida. He received the sixth year, but ND did not want to take a chance given his past history with concussions. You want to err on the side of caution there, especially given the Declan Sullivan tragedy.

Now that the option to give four year scholarships is available, ND will have a great recruiting tool. We have always given 4 year schollies. Tell them to offer you a four year schollie, and if they don't, ask them why.
