How would you be surprised with anything less than 9 wins. In the past 19 years we have won 9 games or more 5 times and won 6 games or less 7 times. Everyone ripping on Ware needs to realize 6 or less wins is very possible with our schedule and history.

Ok sorry, we will win 12 games this year and and every year after.

We got hammered to good teams in 05 and 06 and werent competitive in those games.

ND got hammered by SC in '05? That's news to anybody who watched the game.

ND didn't get "hammered" by OSU. It was a 7 point game with a few minutes to go. They broke a long run on 3rd down. You make that stop and I like our chances with Quinn and co to win it at the end. Even though that didn't happen, ND wasn't hammered.

You also mention ND wasn't competitive with good teams. Um, ND beat #3 Michigan in the big house, beat ranked Pitt at Pitt and lost to top ranked USC with the bush push and lost in OT against MSU.

In conclusion, I don't think you know what you are talking about. To say ND wasn't good and that they werent competitive is simply false.

The 2005 team definitely falls into the "good" category, and is the only one in the last 19 years to finish in the top 10 (No. 9). Some of the players from that team still give Justin Tuck grief (especially Zbikowski) that had he returned, he might have made the difference in the overtime loss to MSU and the epic 34-31 loss to No. 1 USC. That defensive front line could have had Tuck and second-round pick Victor Abiamiri at ends, with Trevor Laws (second round) and Derek Landri (fifth round) inside.

The 2006 team, on the other hand, was a popular pre-season pick for the national title because most everyone returned from 2005, but it was probably the most unfulfilling 10-3 season in school history — and Weis agreed. The three marquee matchups were MIchigan (47-21 loss at home), USC (44-24 loss) and LSU in the Sugar Bowl (41-14 loss).

In addition to finishing unbeaten at home, one of the biggest next steps is to end 19 consecutive seasons of losing at least three games.
