From another board:
Stupid article, when meyer was at florida he was known to be soft. His own players pushed coaches down, and got in trouble just like ND players. I dont see Kelly ever letting a player push a coach down. However, Kelly believes in improving a players psyche instead of punishing. He wants the player to learn, aka Michael Floyd, he didnt have anymore troubles after Kelly put stiff demands but yet did not punish him any games. Kelly just has a different leadership demand. Kelly understands college kids are students first and they are going to live and learn but he believes in improving the future not punishing and I see nothing wrong with that. Just another ND jealousy hater!

This article is ridiculous! No one here knows what has transpired between the coach and his players. Yes, you are correct that they are both in summer workouts while their fate is being determined. Brain Kelly is doing his due diligence before dolling out the any punishment. Not every situation is the same. For example Rees' behavior is far more egregious than Calabrese. Micheal Floyd is a success story. He could have gone the other way very quickly but chose to grow up and become an adult. He could have gone to the NFL early or transferred schools but he didn't. That is because his coach in conjunction with the University saw a young man who needed help and didn't kick him to the curb when he was down.If they had done that what purpose would that have served. I think it would be prudent to wait till all the facts are to determine if Brain Kelly's punishment is just. Don't both arguing that MF got a pass because all fair minded people know that is far from the truth.
Goodness, B/R is really reaching for interesting articles these days. Your opening statements--although so witty!--fell short and aren't really much more than indications that you dislike Notre Dame. Being a Big Ten blogger...I guess I'm not surprised.
This is a non-issue. What else has ND gotten away with lately? The Declan Sullivan debacle? Try to keep bringing that up as if it were some Vatican cover-up.
Michael Floyd being given a pass? Try this...if there had been correct information disseminated (by writers like you) I guarantee this wouldn't have blown up like it did. The incident in question was his FIRST D.U.I -- not his "2nd or 3rd D.U.I. offense" as most writers on here erroneously stated. I'm not saying you did personally. D.U.I.'s are nothing to balk at but he paid his debt to society, reformed and had zero problems from then on.
Meyer, while noble in his suspensions, didn't do much other than trick people like you into thinking he's reformed. I've never really been an Urban Meyer hater like most of NDNation but this is pretty convenient. This is merely a public relations boon and a formality. They will be granted their scholarships back by the first snap of the season -- all this does (to my knowledge) is put the "burden" of payment for summer school courses on their shoulders. Last time I checked...summer classes at a state school aren't going to break one's back.
This is the same school that covered up the statue of Jesus so Obama could make a speech in front of it; the same school that hired their coach with the condition that he not coach his team in its first major bowl game ever; and who hired a coach that notoriously lied to the UC players ("I won't leave you!") Brian Kelly can do no right in my book, even if he does. Just so you know, I am biased.
Having said that, I still think Kelly will rue the day for letting these guys slide. there must be real consequences for a player to put himself in the kind of position that results in charges like these. Kelly really does have to win lots this year & we've all seen what ethics he'll abide by under pressure.
as an irish i think rees should've been punished cos what he did was worse than what floyd did. floyd at least cooperated with police. rees was dumb enough to assault a cop.
This whole thing is way overblown. The actual incident did not begin to live up to the hype. Bu the article is no different than hundreds that have been posted on here over the years when some dumb kid does a stupid thing on another campus.
Rees didn't "assault" a cop...stop with the utter nonsense....
This whole situation was BS from Hour 1, Day 1....
--- do you know what a "misdemeanor" is?
If you are cited for "jaywalking" you will find out...get it?
We shall see what comes out, but there has to some punishment. Carlobrese is a meathead through and through for his remark.
Oh sixyard. You have no idea what I know about "misdemeanor" and for that matter felony's. Check the South Bend Tribune archives From about 1982 to 1985. Get It? Besides none of the reply's are mine. They are from a different board. Get It?
"We shall see what comes out, but there has to some punishment. Carlobrese is a meathead through and through for his remark."
Are we supposed to take you seriously? First you can get his name right. Then you can tell us how you never said anything stupid as a young man. What would be a suitable punishment? Drawn and quartered perhaps?
I'd say Kelly does know a little something about discipline. I'll never forget the angry screaming face picture from the South Florida game. Seeing that face is probably all any player on the team needs to stay in line. I bet they see it often.
My guess is that this is yet another example of lazy writing from a third rate site. i see no quotes from ND which begs the question if they talked to anybody about the article. Second, I believe ND is waiting for the legal system to play out. o$u suspended two players for a summer session.....what a joke. An all image suspension equating to a love tap. If this writer is comparing ND's track record with um and even o$u (who is currently on probation) then i'll caution on the side of real character every time. Let's see what facts wash out and the resulting action from ND before judgement is passed. At least in this case with tr and cc doing it any other way is like picking a national champion without a playoff......it proves little!
