If ND has Jones and Armstead with KLM coming back.....

  • only a moron would continue with a predominant 3-4.
Even if they don't get Armstead, only a moron would continue with a predominant 3-4.
    Is T'eo coming back?
I believe that if KLM didn't get hurt, they'd both be leaving early for the NFL with degrees in hand.
But, with KLM getting hurt, I think that there is a chance that both of them will be back.
Now, T'eo may leave even with KLM coming back. We don't know how big of a rift Kelly caused.
If he's back, ND should move to a 4-3.
If he's not back, they should go 4-3/5-2/and Nickel D whatever the situation calls for.
But the 3-4 should be extremely rare. Especially if the coaches are still lying about Fox and Calabrese being the 2 best WILLs ND has in the linebacking stable. Even if they practice the best, they're not gamers. ND needs gamers. Who cares if you're Joey Hustle in practice if you always get burned in games, you need not be out on the field on game day.

  • I think KLM only comes back if his rehab on his knee is were it needs to be in late January. Teo is probably gone, but hopefully the young lb can move in and play.

  • Sorry to disagree here with both of you, but I am very optimistic...

    --- that BOTH return.

We would have a terrific 4 down with KLM returning at full speed....

--- Fox and Carlo simply don't get it done on the 3-4, but Diaco will play it next year for sure...without a doubt....

--- perhaps Shembo will move inside to WILL even tho his pass coverage is his weak point.

Grace and Councell could come on playing OLB with their size, but since they both sat this year, next year seems too early.

I would expect 2013 to be the year defensively for us...perhaps beyond if Kelly can keep the secondary recruits this year.

  • Armstead would be a huge get for us...we have a chance....

  • Not sure where KLM even 'ranks' in terms of draft status but now that he is damaged goods I suspect he will be back. Teo is interesting, easy decision is to run to the NFL, he is probably the 2nd to 3rd best ILB prospect, I think Burfict is pretty talented but is a head case so he might drop, that leaves the kid from BC and Teo fighting for #1....but neither is the tru athletic freak like Von Miller from A&M last year so I don't think they are Top 15 picks, latter half of round 1 and more likely 2nd round. Is that enough for Teo? Not sure, the kid is his own man and seems to really spend time thinking about decisions, I think it's a coin flip right now.

As for the idea that the spat with BK is going to be the deciding factor, get real, BK played those kids like a fiddle, he got them motivated and focused together as a team, only people making something of that at this point are people who have no clue.

  • Kelly didn't play anyone like fiddles.
Kelly makes bad decisions and puts his foot in his mouth.
He apologized to his players but wouldn't admit to it before the Navy game when he was interviewed.
The guy is a coward and if he didn't have a nice Irish name, he might never have gotten the job.
Why do you think George O'Leary was offered the coaching job?
Kelly is human. He makes mistakes and is cowardly from time to time, but he didn't play anyone like a fiddle.
Nothing wrong with Weiss' guys, some are good, some are really good, and some are underachieving. Every coach has all these types of players. The problem this year has been the evaluators of talent. The coaches have been the ones who haven't let the best men in.

  • I totally agree with AHL here regarding Kelly...

    --- and KLM

--- and Teo, although Teo might look at things differently than our previous "early outs" did....

If Teo does opt out early, the 3-4 is "dead on arrival" at ND next year....

--- Diaco will go with what we have seen this year.....shudder time....and Harrison is gone...

This is about the stupidest post I've seen this week. Benedict was appointed Pope because he's Catholic. O'Leary was picked because he was the hottest prospect at the time as was Kelly. If you don't like Kelly, that is your opinion and you are far from being alone.

Not sure who you think would be the best men in. Not saying Kelly or Diaco are perfect but not sure what their options were that would have been better.

Hopefully Grace is the real deal and can move into one of the starting ILB roles. Think Fox sould get a hair cut - the Sampson/Matthews look isn't working for him maybe he should get hair cut like T Rob did.

Kelly lready stated that KLM will have another year when he was injured

  • Yes, Fox needs a haircut.
Fox and Calabrese were both consistently sub par all season.
There is no way on earth that they are the best ND has to offer.
There is no way that Moore, Utupo, or Schmidt aren't head and shoulders better than both of them.
There is no reason why Shembo shouldn't be on the inside.
They have other options at DOG.
Shembo went to waste all year because he was in the place he was least effective.
Diaco knew, but of course did nothing.
Shembo did best when he played DE.
The best solution would have been putting Smith at DOG with Filer and Spond backing him up.
Shembo and T'eo on the inside with Utupo and Moore subbing in.
Flemming at CAT with Filer subbing in.
The best part of having Smith at DOG is that he could move over to SS or rover on the fly.
ND would be able to disguise coverages with ease.
I don't know why Diaco didn't try it.
Anyhow next year, I have total confidence in Grace and Schmidt on the inside and Councell and Rabasa on the outside. I know that Rabasa is listed on the inside, but they may wanna consider him on the outside as well. Okwara may also be really good on the outside. If Odenigbo comes aboard, ND is gonna be really good at LB, even if T'eo heads for the draft. You can expect Niklas and Ishaq to be DEs next year
Regarding the previous post on my stupidest post:
I don't think O'Leary was at all a top coaching prospect.
Most people I know in the football business were quite shocked about O'Leary getting the job.
They all said that if his last name wasn't O'Leary, there is no way he'd have gotten the job.
Now Kelly is arrogant and he can be a prick, but he is no calculating evil genius that thought it would be a good idea to look like an idiot and actually lose the respect of his players, commits, and recruits and their parents because this is how he chose to motivate his team. He gave up too much and lost too much respect.
All to beat teams they were gonna beat anyway. He was covering his ass and trying to buy time.
He didn't wanna take the blame for the defensive scheme and QB choice and getting out-X and Oed by the Kiffins, so he instead blamed the players' efforts and targeted Weiss' guys, washing his hands of responsibility.
Maybe this is how I should've explained the situation in the previous post.
Last season, I remember Kelly's post game comments.
When the team won, he'd always use "WE" at the beginning of sentences.
When the team lost, he'd always use "THEY" when he talked about his team.
It wasn't based as much on play, as it was on winning and losing.
When they play like crap and win, he's always very optimistic about the win.
    That should concern some people.

There better not be a test on these!!

Definitely better off not reading them at all; I keep feeling dumber and dumber every time I click on one...
