Teo and Eiffert return - Kelly's worst dilemma....Yes indeed.

  • With Teo and Eiffert returning (as I said they would repeatedly vs. lafortune who saw them out the door)...

--- Kelly is going to hear repeatedly "BCS, BCS, BCS...or else..."

--- "third year is it....Holtz did it..."

Every moron from Bleacher Report to ESPN is going to say that

--- "ND is loaded on defense like never before since Holtz..."...."ND"s defense is SEC quality..."

No place to hide for Kelly and Diaco...no place....

#1 Front four can rotate 8 very good players including top recruits Day and Jones along with a couple of superstars in Lynch, KLM, and Tuitt....even Nix

#2 Two of the best corners from the entire 2011 class are on their way...giving ND 2 real elite corners for the first time in decades....yes decades....

#3 Teo returns at MIKE for another All-American year...long time since Crable...long time...

#4 ND's 2 marginal WILL LBs return with another year of experience...but the star ST. X(OH) ILB (Grace) will probably come on to start...

#5 1 OLB returns (in Shembo) wth the Iman or Councell probably stepping up to give ND two super sized OLBs that very few other teams have...

#6 Motta returns as one safety with the possible promotion of a very good recruit in Hardy(2011) and Prosise from 2012

    Almost NO weaknesses on defense,

--- so an 8-4 simply won't do it in 2012.

  • Walls and McNeil were as highly rated as the current incoming group. Even if they are all world , they will be freshmen and will make freshmen mistakes. The returning "veterans" on the corners have 0 starts among them. I hope for our sake Motta is not the starting Safety with the green corners. He is not good in coverage. Hopefully we havent seen his best because that wasn't his assignment. My prediction - he will not be the starter

LB will be a very interesting position to watch next year with Grace , Moore, Spond, Councell , Niklas, I Shaq, and Rabassa likely vying with the current starters for serious playing time

Lastly, done prepare a spot for the crystal just yet without actually looking at the schedule. Florida had the best defense in football a few years ago and managed to lose to Mississippi state - Tough to keep focus and avoid mistakes 12 weeks in a row

POTW - Last year and 2/20/11

Successful ND coaches have usually reached their optimal effectiveness by the third year, so it will be interesting to see what level we can reach next year.

Defense should be good. The problem is if bk continues to play tommy turnover look for another 8 win season. If bk gets his head out of his a$$ and plays Hendrix or Golson then 10 wins is possible.

  • They could've had a much better D this year, but Diaco pissed it away.
We knew early on that both Calabrese and Fox weren't getting it done, so if they didn't wanna give Utupo a chance to prove himself, then T'eo should've moved to WILL and had Moore at MIKE.
Those 2 options were not exercised by Diaco, but weren't because Diaco was in denial.
Of course a coach who hasn't been thinking critically all season long is probably also incapable of changing scheme. If you fail to see the tweaks and adjustments, you're gonna fail to see the big picture.
The Hendrix situation is a no-brainer and that's on Kelly.
Putting Riddick at WR is on Kelly and not putting him back at RB is on Kelly.
After Kelly sold him on "you're gonna be the next Golden Tate."
Of course Riddick is gonna say "OK, I'll switch positions." But he's best suited at RB.
So let's get him back at RB and give Toma some more touches.
The key is starting Hendrix. Rees has had many opportunities and Hendrix should be granted 1 opportunity to prove himself this season. Let's see what happens when he plays the whole game.
Kelly needs to stop wasting time and whole seasons.
Work smarter, don't be constantly making the same mistakes for a whole season.

  • Suspect secondary, unproven wide outs, and I'm not sure what's more scary the qb situation or the punt return situation. That said ND 17-0 next year, yeah I think the boys play some weekday games because they like the taste of blood!!! Wooooo baby let's go Irish!!!!!

  • La6yard -

Please don't go postal on your response, but I have a question for you.

When did you predict that both Manti and Eifert would return?

  • I don't understand your question.
First, you're addressing 2 different people. I hope you understand that first of all.
At least, I was wrong, so far, about something that really doesn't matter.
If T'eo and Eifert stay or go really isn't a big deal at all.
If ND wins the NC next year, it's still only a sport, just a game.
I'd rather be wrong about players in a sport, than important things in life.
I'd rather know about how a drone was supposedly shot down without causing any damage to the drone whatsoever. That's highly unusual for a shot down aircraft to have no damage. That's a story.
That's interesting. So get with it Mattymo. Start getting interested in things that are happening around you. Don't get sucked into the false reality and be too distracted by the Hegelian Dialectic.
I don't know when I predicted that T'eo and Eifert would enter the draft.
I made that prediction based on highlights where T'eo talks about getting paid.
So, I misread him and part of me wanted the younger guys to be given a chance.
ILB was a mess this season, just a complete mess and that was on Diaco.
T'eo is a good linebacker but it was a frustrating year for him because ILB was all on him.
He didn't get a lot of help. Lot's of drawn out drives because the WILL was constantly being picked apart.
Eifert is actually a guy who could make a huge impact as a rookie with the right team.
I wanted to see more Koyack. I could care less if McNamara would grace ND if Eifert were to leave early.
He's not an RKG. ND doesn't need McNamara's ego. I can't remember the last time a recruit showed so much disrespect.

    Lafortune -

I was referring to your alter-ego, 6yard. It's not all about you. More than ever, I think you and 6yard are the same person - especially after you responded to a post directed at La6yard.

    6yard (La6yard) -

When did you predict that both Manti and Eifert would stay at ND?

I may be wrong, but I don't recall seeing it.

  • No Mattymo, it's all about you and your wit. 6yard is 6yard, and lafortune is lafortune, but la6yard is directed at 2 different people. So I replied to your condescending and smug post.

  • La6yard -

Still think you are the same person as you wrote "6yard is 6yard and Lafortune is Lafortune". Somewhere in there one would expect to see the would 'I'.

  • "So I replied to your condescending and smug post."
You did see the word "I".
    http://news.yahoo.com/exclusive-iran-hijacked-us-drone-says-iranian-engineer-164100415.html

Yes the drone did land in Iran, but Iran didn't make it happen.
From the pictures, it is obvious that the drone wasn't shot down, so it must have landed.

    I'm lafortune, not 6yard.
