I realize it is heresy for some ND fans to even deal with my suggestion that Golsen isn't going to start...let alone play...
--- and that the quarterback competition isn't going to be "fair"...as in it is statistically impossible to evaluate 4 quarterbacks in spring practice.
They think Kelly recruited Kiel to sit on the bench...
--- ludicrous....and Holtz recruited Powlus to sit on the bench...and Weis recruited Clausen to sit....sure.
When we get a top quarterback, he starts in his first year as a true freshman...somewhere in that year, but he is top dog by the end of it.
--- and every other quarterback, regardless of their hype, moves on to some other program, or switches, or sits for good.
Powlus as #1 (1993,94,95,96)...Ornstein transferred...and Powlus started every game over 4 years except for two when he was injured...
Brady Quinn (2003, 04, 05, 06) forced out Holiday, who was the starter (punt returns and back up WR), Olsen (UVA), Bragg (3rd string WR), Wolke (Western K)
Clausen (2007, 08, 09) as #1 forced out Sharpley (sit), DJones (UC 3rd string OLB for Kelly, drop out), Frazer (UConn),
Hendrix, even though he didn't start, forced out Crist (KU), Montana (Montana), Massa (3rd string WR), and Roback (Ohio U).
Olsen, Wolke, Sharpley, and Frazer were ALL equally as highly rated or more highly rated than Golsen out of high school.
Kiel isn't sitting.
Why are you starting another anti-Golson at QB thread? The last one not going the way you expected or is this a thing with you?
I of course am referring to this steaming pile: http://notredame.247sports.com/Board/88/Position-Switch-seems-like-Golsen-is-in-the-works-8210490/1

this guy is one of the biggest clowns on this site. I really don't understand how "fans" of a pay site can talk as if they are so ill informed. Do you not pay attention to anything on here that you pay for? Or do you just choose to ignore it and let your stupidity take over? The thought of switching Golson to WR is pure nonsense. And the fact that he can't even spell his name right pretty much confirms he doesn't have much going on in that brain.
Lets see what happens before we make comments on Golson. He may be right. Lets face it, at ND these days, nothing would surprise me.
interesting how your analaysis has ZERO information about how they actually play on the field....maybe you should first see them all play at a couple spring practices or at least see the spring game or even watch old recruiting tape otherwise it's hard to give your opinion any credibility.
Good point Parkway...
Lets just kinda wait and see and hope that the decision this Spring/Fall will be a natural one. One that will include having a mobile QB, one that can run and extend plays.
And what did Powlus amount to? Did he win the two Heismans as predicted by that dinosaur Beano Cook? WHat has Quinn and Clausen done?
I'm by no means saying he will guaranteed be the starter without a doubt, sure a lot of things can happen. But if you saw the other posts that he has been making such as switching positions and what not you would see my point. Its pure nonsense. Golson is the front runner
Kevin McDougal was the starter in Powlus's true freshman year (1993), as Powlus broke his collarbone before the season. That year, of course, was one of Notre Dame's best.
I personally think Golson is a far better all-around player than Kiel, from the video that I have seen, but we'll have to see how it all works out.
domer, you do have to admit that Quinn & Clausen were both wildly successful at Notre Dame. Not they didn't win a national Title, but they certainly aren't alone there, are they? What they did do was set, reset break and re break almost all Notre Dame QB records. Neither one has been successful in the NFL , true, but neither was Mirer, Tony Rice, or any of the guys who transferred or rode the pine as mentioned by sitko. Gotta remember, he and his buddy seem to relish the negative post, just to hear the sound of their own voices.
