Wide Receivers for 2012 - BIG drop off without a deep WR

  • I really don't understand lafortune and others who feel our wide receiver corp next year will...

--- be an improvement over this year's group.

Can we enter the realm of reality for a moment, just a moment?

#1 We lose Floyd (truly are only superstar) as the only proven deep threat we had this year and last year (even though Rees can't throw deep)...

#2 Toma, TJ and whoever else Kelly does his usual "story time" on are what anyone would "slot" types without size or true speed...

#3 Riddick has returned (probably for good) to running back because Cierre simply can't carry the load for the entire season...
--- and we all know Ceirre has "stone" hands when it comes to catching anything in the backfield or down field.

#4 It is entirely possible that Eiffert will "opt out for early for the NFL" given the team for 2012 is NOT going to the BCS...

Sure, we could have a great defense if we play a scheme to fit our talent...blah, blah, blah....
--- but our "D" isn't going to play offense, .... our WR corp is extremely limited unless a true miracle occurs.

  • I agree that the WR situation won't be as good in 2012. When you lose a guy as good as Floyd, there will be a drop off

  • Frankly, our offense doesn't look that good across the board for next year. But sometimes the young guys come on when you don't expect it, so we'll have to see who steps up.

As long as tommy turnover is at the helm there is no need for a deep threat WR since he can't throw it more than 25 yards.

  • You have to expect some progression from the younger kids, will TJ get better, probably, will some of the other kids step up, probably, it's only natural to play better as you progress from FR to SR. Is there a Floyd quality WR on the roster, I highly doubt it.......but can we maybe get 2-3 guys who can make some plays, I think that is likely. BK doesn't design his offense to key on one guy, it's really about progressions and finding the mismatch, I think there will be some WR's that step up to fill the void, not so worried about this, will they be Floyd, no but will they catch the ball and move the chains, I think we will have some kids capable of that.

  • Floyd is gone, but ND will replace him with either Smith, Greenberry, or Payton or Agholor if they commit.
Smith seems a little timid, but when you've been playing behind a guy that plays every down, you don't get much of an opportunity. It's kind of like Moore's situation on defense. He's got talent, but T'eo plays every down.
Riddick is moving back to RB.
Toma, Farley, and Ferguson will battle for the one position.(maybe Eric Lee will get into the mix?)
Jones, Daniels, and Brown will battle for the other spot. or Payton is he comes aboard.

I'd like to see Smith hit some serious weights and move to TE if he can't be the WR ND needs.
