Lemming is usually hyper supportive of ND's recruiting process and classes,
--- sometimes to the point of absurdity down through the years.
This year, it appears he has taken the more conservative road...
--- putting Nd at #7 overall.
What struck me the most was his unabashed esteem for the 2013 USC class,
--- as it was in 2010 and 2011 when USC was ranked in the Top 5.
All this talent apparently didn't translate last year, but football is a "team" sport.
The rankings are pretty silly, really, since they just add up rankings of athletes which are pretty suspect to begin with. They don't take into advantage what you need, or the distribution of talent you recruit (so getting 5 4-star QB's would be rated the same as getting a 4-star QB, a 4-star receiver, a 4-star running back, and a 4-star offensive lineman, and a 4-star tight end.
So you have to take all of this with a grain of salt.
NSD is getting to be like NFL draft day. All day coverage. Fans talking it up. Hype galore. A program's future may depend on whether an 18 year old likes the girls at one place or the weather in another. Grown adults lay sleepless at night stressing about a 5 star and his wavering. I'm not hard core into this recruiting jazz, but I find it very entertaining and lots of fun.
ND finished #3 on maxpreps and consensus 3 based on all major cites. I agree it's just s important to hit areas on need which ND did a very good job of. The last highly rated class of weis did not address lines, d etc as usual for his classes though it included some high rated players and stars.
