Notre Dame Commit Jaylon Smith 2011 Highlight Reel
Jaylon Smith vs Manti Te'o
who looks better coming out of high school?
Manti. He was just more complete of a package. However I don't know who has a higher ceiling.
Manti no question. Ironically it is Manti's character that made the difference too.
not a fair comparison; different regions, competition and different styles of play. JS plays at a faster tempo; better range. T probably played with a bit more power.
athletic to be sure and nothing but greatest hope for future success, but there's hardly a lick o defense shown in that Jaylon vid:
So he could be the best running back ND has or the best linebacker.
A few more defense plays.
National signing day for the 2013 class is still several months away, but that doesn't stop top recruits from getting the recruiting process out of the way and committing to a school early...
Notre Dame junior forward Natalie Achonwa (Guelph, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) has been named to the final 12-player roster for the 2012 Canadian Senior Women's National Team, it was announced Tuesday. Canada will be competing in the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament June 25-July 1 in Ankara, Turkey, with the top five finishers from that 12-team event earning a berth in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.
Brian Kelly on Hot Seat???
June 5, 2012 2:05 pm
Heard some rumors that if Brian Kelly doesnt show progress this year, which possibly has the ability to be the toughest schedule in the country, that he will be let go.. Man i sure hope not. Would hate to start over AGAIN.. I feel in my gut that he is the right person for the job and once he gets a full team based on his type of recruiting the Irish will be back competing for titles. The defense is looking a lot better than past years and recruiting in that area has been on the upside. Offensively the Irish have the tools they just have to hold on to the DAMN BALL.. I sure hope this stuff isnt true, was just throwing this out there for some talk and to see where you guys stand on this topic. Go Irish..
n the military they have a policy called "Up or Out." If you don't get promoted to the next grade within a certain amount of years in service, you're out. Sounds applicable here. He must show improvement, and there can be a slight allowance for this year's tougher-than-the-average-bear schedule. As long as he at least equals his record of the last two years and eliminates the mental meltdowns, both by him and the players...AND proves that he knows how to train and develop a quarterback who won't make us all hold our breath on every snap.
Anyone that hasn't seen improvement in this team both in terms of on-field performance and recruiting are blind. Do the mental gaffes need to stop? Yes, but most of those can be attributed to a QB that most likely won't see the field this year.
And anyone that thinks BK is on the hot seat this year is an idiot. Real talk. Swarbrick isn't going to replace a coach after three years. Brian will get five years, though I believe he'll be around much longer.
I don't know, Entourage. I think a lot is riding on the team's performance this year. This team has often looked bad since Kelly took over and on occasion has looked downright foolish. I don't think the trustees or the more influential alumni enjoyed being embarrassed; that Michigan game cut deep. They want to see an end to the children's hour. They want a team of serious men with a common purpose and the will to make it happen. They're tired of Notre Dame being a punch line.
I'll never post on this board if BK is fired after this season. Trust me when I tell you this - he'll get five years.
there is no way BK gets fired this year for on field/team issues. the talent level has only gotten dramatically better since he got here. the D is light years ahead of where it was under Weis. yes there are plenty of issues that need to be cleaned up going forward.
but with the schedule they have in front of them in '12 they are in for a 7-5 year possibly. hard to fire a coach that has recruited like BK has after going 7-5 playing the nations toughest schedule. with the talent they currently have on the roster and pledged to join the squad in the future, the future is very bright starting in '13 and beyond.
Knute - BK gets 5 years....already in the books. This team has done well under his coaching, not as well as I like, but well enough for BK to keep his job for the next two years, if not more.
Michigan broke my back for the last two years, but beating MSU eased the pain. As you, and every poster that bleeds green blood has stated, the big problem with Notre Dame last season was poor QB play. If you give up the football in your own red zone 20+ times, you deserve to lose.
The Irish D has gotten beter, and so has our O line. We will miss Floyd, but I feel our running game will pick up the slack, especialy when they have a line that will open some holes.
Heard some rumors that if Brian Kelly doesnt show progress this year, which possibly has the ability to be the toughest schedule in the country, that he will be let go..
And do these rumors have any basis in reality? No. BK is fine. He will get 5 years to show his merit. He is recruiting well, despite the defections, and the team has improved in almost every category since he took over. His issues on the field have been obvious (QB play, TO's, a few questionable play calls), but none are enough to put him on the hotseat after 2 years. Lets look at the history of ND coaches let go in under 5 years... there are 2: George O'Leary (never coached a game) and Ty Willingham, who's recruiting issues led directly to the 2007 disaster. BK is 16-10 with Weis recruits, and has brought in good recruiting classes each year, with the greatest success on the D-line in over 20 years.
Barring a 2007-esque season, BK will also not be on the hot seat next year. Lets stop perpetuating stupid rumors.
