If this article comes to life, then it answers why Golson will be starting QB. As we saw in the Blue Gold game, Golson is the mosty dynamic runner of our QB's. I envision more of an Oregon like offense next year, with explosive plays in the running game. I hope I am not just dreaming....
First, your not dreaming. The day Kelly persuaded Golson to leave North Carolina
for ND Crist and Rees days were numbered. The only reason Golson didn't get a chance as a feshmen were due to problems adjusting to ND in classroom. He now has this under control. Pray he stays healthy. If anyone doubts his skills ask Harrison Smith.
It may also be why we didn't see more of Hendrix earlier in the season - If Kelly was only trying to keep the seat warm and give us the best chance to win then he would do so with the more experienced guys as they would be less likely to make mistakes - OOPS
POTW - Last year and 2/20/11
If Crist wouldn't have been injured against Tulsa, Kelly would have stuck with Dayne until Golson was ready. We would have never heard of Rees, he would been lost in the shuffle like massa. I'm not knocking Tommy, but he doesn't have the makeup for this offense. He doesn't run and if he did he wouldn't last long. However the fact is Dayne was injured, Tommy stumbled into a 4-0 finish and most thought he was the answer. Which in turn led to a QB controversy. Here is something to think about. Did it just happen that Chuck Martin and his offensive style is named coordinator as Golson is being thrown into the mix?
It is no doubt that the majority of ND fans everywhere are hoping that Golson is the QB next year!!!!
Golsen has a lot of natural talent,
--- but whether or not we are going to switch to the run option is another question.
The strength and talent of both Golsen and Hendrix lies in some form of the run option.
Actually, I think Golson was more of a mobile thrower than he was a runner or option quarterback in high school. Obviously, he did run some option in high school and he showed us that he was an excellent runner in the spring game. But whether designated quarterback runs are a big part of the offense or not, his mobility and ability to evade the rush would be a major advantage for our offense.
We just have to go to the run option as the team is configured right now...
--- the pure spread is not going to work.
Golson is more mobile and can extend a play - thus better able to move the chains - something that TR did not have the ability to do and that's not a knock on him just the facts. TR was able to make adjustments before snaps - that's something that may take a bit of time for Golson to learn but his mobility may bale him out of some of those missed adjustments - got to take the 'good' with the 'bad' - part of the growth process - Golson would be starting(if he gets the nod) his first college game. I'm praying for no freaking injury. GO IRISH!!
