Rock n Roll HOF Disgrace

  • Moody Blues, Chicago, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Paul Revere & Raiders all not in. I will boycot the city of Cleveland and the HOF until this travesty has been corrected. Who's with me?

    Irish Ween

  • I don't go to Cleveland anyway so does that count?

  • I checked the rules and yes indeed, I'll put you down for the boycott. And then there were two.

I would like to add Journey to that list. I know that they loved/hated by many but you cannot discount their popularity in the late 70's/early 80's, their musical resurgence in pop culture(Sopranos,Glee) , the most downloaded song in history in Don't Stop Believin and the fact that they had two of music histories greatest in singer Steve Perry and guitarist Neal Schon.

The HOF is littered with one hit, no name musical entities that pale in comparison to Journey. I guess if Rolling Stone magazine doesn't find you cool then you likely don't get in.

  • Two glaring examples are The Lovin Spoonful and Grandmaster Flash. Those two inductees are head scratchers to say the least.

    exactly.

  • Sorry I don't get over here that often. Though GM Flash & Melle Mel transformed rap and were some of the very first to make thier own music to be in the HOF? Hmm, I do vote yes that they, he is/was should be considered for and noted for his contributions. Might be difficult because of the genere. Run DMC is in correct? Early on in thier career they mixed rock with thier style. I know it wasn't for everyone but in their own way they pioneered that style. I had no problem with that.

  • The problem with Rap music is it may be an art form, but not necessarily music. I don't believe oldies and classic music radio stations will be playing Rap music 40 years from now. When you sample music and use vinyl to produce a sound, where is the creativity? Where is the soul? It's basically spoken word rhymes with a groove as a backdrop. The beatnicks were doing that in Greenwich Village in the 1950s. Rap may be OK with the college kids in the dance clubs because it has a groove, but it will never have the effect that the music from Pink Floyd, Beatles, BB King, Staple Singers, or Beach Boys will ever have on the human ears. The BeeGees had a tremendous effect on Disco, yet they are not in the HOF. If we are inducting these artists for the cultural aspect, then let's open the floodgates. Many music historians credit Blondie with the first semblence of Rap with their song "Rapture". Even that song has a melody. Anyway, this is just my opinion. People may disagree. That's OK.

  • I agree but at least back then they had to work harder to sample, haha! Nowadays it's all computerized.
