Butler Commits To Notre Dame

You only have one chance to make a good first impression. And that was all Notre Dame needed in courting the services of Devin Butler of Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga High.

The 6-1, 180-pound cornerback took a series of visits in March to Penn State (3/16), Michigan (3/24), Wisconsin (3/27) and Notre Dame (3/29). Each stop impressed him along the way, including the Nittany Lions being made the public favorite following the trip, but the last stop along the way to South Bend was all he needed as he offered his commitment before leaving the Irish campus.

Butler originally set an announcement for May 12 while still on the Irish campus, then moved up to April 11 and decided he was prepared to make his decision known via Twitter on Wednesday at 10 a.m., per his report to BlueandGold.com on Tuesday.

The D.C. native recorded 43 tackles, six interceptions and 12 pass breakups as a junior, and is rated by 247Sports as the No. 43 athlete in the nation and the No. 3 prospect in his state.

His other finalists were Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin.

Butler is Notre Dame's tenth verbal commitment and the second cornerback to commit, the other being Rashad Kinlaw of Absecon (N.J.) Absegami High. The Irish are targeting at least three in the 2013 haul.
