Long struggled to find a home in 2023. After four years with the Rams, the 2019 third-round selection spent time with the Packers, Panthers and Raiders, appearing in a total of 14 games. He'll now work to make the most of his fresh opportunity in the Big Apple.

1h agoVera-Tucker (Achilles) is "feeling good" and is "definitely on pace for a good start to the season," Caroline Hendershot of the Jets' official site reports.
Vera-Tucker suffered a torn Achilles on Oct. 8 against the Broncos, but it sounds like the veteran offensive lineman has a chance to be ready to compete once training camp comes around. Despite playing right tackle for the team last season, their selection of Olumuyiwa Fashanu in the 2024 Draft and trade for Morgan Moses, suggests Vera-Tucker may move inside and play guard in 2024.

1h agoCarlies is expected to transition to linebacker after playing safety in college, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
There were questions about Carlies coverage ability coming out of Missouri and entering the 2024 Draft, but his speed and playmaking skills still earned him a fifth-round selection by the Colts. Due to those skills, along with his ability to tackle, the transition to linebacker makes sense for the 22-year-old.

1h agoScott (knee) will have an opportunity to earn the Colts' starting free safety job, according to defensive coordinator Gus Bradley,James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Scott was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 Draft, but he missed the entirety of his rookie campaign after he suffered a torn ACL during OTAs last June. It's still not clear when the California product will be 100 percent, or if he is already, but it appears the team believes he'll be healthy enough to compete for a starting job in 2024.

1h agoMurray will be throwing to a new No. 1 wide receiver in 2024 and beyond after the Cardinals selected Marvin Harrison, fourth overall, in this year's draft.
Murray's 2023 debut was delayed due to a torn ACL in his right knee that he suffered Dec. 12, 2022. Upon his return Week 10, he started the final eight games of the campaign, completing 176 of 268 passes (65.7 percent) for 1,799 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing 44 times for 244 yards and three more TDs. By the end of the season, second-year TE Trey McBride had transformed into Murray's favorite target, and after the offseason departure of Marquise Brown (Chiefs), the quarterback was in search of a dynamic weapon in the passing game. The arrival of Harrison provides just that for Murray, who also will have RB James Conner and WR Michael Wilson at his disposal.

Thomas started 15 of the 17 games he appeared in last season, but that doesn't mean he'll maintain that role this year. Bradley stated that both Daniel Scott (knee) and Nick Cross will have the opportunity to take the job from Thomas.

Lux will begin the matchup from the dugout as the Diamondbacks start their third straight left in Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Wednesday. Miguel Rojas will get his second consecutive start at second base and bat seventh.

It hasn't been reported that Ohtani is dealing with any type of injury, so he's presumably just receiving his first rest day of the season. Ohtani still has a 1.017 OPS on the campaign but has gone 5-for-26 over the past six games, and Thursday's team off day will provide a chance for two straight days to reset. Will Smith will rest his legs as the designated hitter while Austin Barnes starts behind the plate.

Rodriguez is back in action after he hadn't played since April 24 due to the hand injury he sustained while sliding into second base on a stolen-base attempt in a game against San Antonio. The 21-year-old outfielder had gotten off to a strong start to the season for Wichita before suffering the injury, slashing .294/.507/.686 with four home runs and nine stolen bases in 73 plate appearances.

Frankie Montas CIN SPReds' Frankie Montas: Tracking toward return next week
35m agoReds manager David Bell said Tuesday that he expects Montas (forearm) to return from the 15-day injured list when first eligible May 7 or the day after, MLB.com reports.
Montas was placed on the IL on April 22 with a bruised right forearm, which he sustained when he was struck by a line drive in his start a day earlier. Bell noted that Montas threw a side session Monday without issue, and the right-hander will throw one more bullpen session later this week as a final test of his health. If all goes well, Montas should rejoin the rotation for the Reds' three-game series with the Diamondbacks that begins next Tuesday.

The southpaw slinger will head back to the Aces after being brought up in late April. Saalfrank appeared in two games during his quick tenure with the Diamondbacks, and he allowed four earned runs over one inning.

Beverley is dealing with an oblique injury once again, but he played through the issue in Tuesday's Game 5 and tallied 13 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, two steals and a block in 36 minutes. Damian Lillard (Achilles) is doubtful for Thursday's matchup, so if Beverley is available, he'll likely have plenty of chances to contribute.

Middleton sprained his right ankle in Game 2 but continues to play through the pain and will likely do so again Thursday. Over the last three matchups, Middleton has carried the Bucks, averaging 32.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 40.3 minutes per game. With Damian Lillard (calf) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) both doubtful, Middleton should be in store for a hefty workload during Game 6.

Haliburton has also been on the injury report ahead of the last two matchups but suited up and averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds in 33.0 minutes per game over those appearances. If he's available again Thursday as the Pacers attempt to clinch the series, he'll likely be able to handle a sizable workload.

Lillard is listed as doubtful for a third straight matchup after aggravating a right Achilles injury during Game 3. Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) is also doubtful, so Bobby Portis and Malik Beasley should remain in the starting lineup. The Bucks had a valiant effort in Game 5 at home to extend the series, led by Portis and Khris Middleton (ankle), but they still need to win back-to-back games to advance to the second round.

Although the Bucks managed to keep their season alive Tuesday, they'll likely have to play without Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard (Achilles) once again as the series shifts back to Indiana on Thursday. Assuming he's unavailable for Game 6, it's unclear whether Antetokounmpo will be in the mix to return for a potential Game 7.

Robinson missed Game 4 due to an ankle issue but returned for Game 5 and logged 25 minutes. The big man has averaged 3.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals in 21.3 minutes during the opening-round series.

Rittich is getting his second straight start after saving 12 of 13 shots in a 1-0 loss to Edmonton in Game 4 on Sunday. Edmonton has a potent offense, which ranked fourth in the 2023-24 campaign with 3.56 goals per game, so the Oilers will probably fire considerably more shots in the upcoming tilt. Rittich had a 13-6-3 record, 2.15 GAA and .921 save percentage in 24 regular-season contests.

4h agoSkinner is expected to start at home against LA in Game 5 on Wednesday, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
Skinner earned a 33-save shutout over the Kings in Game 4 and has stopped 60 of 61 shots (.984 save percentage) over his last two starts. That gives him a 3-1 record, 2.48 GAA and .919 save percentage in four playoff contests this year. The 25-year-old was streaky in the regular season, finishing with a 36-16-5 record, 2.62 GAA and .905 save percentage in 59 appearances, but Skinner seems to be on a roll with a chance to eliminate the Kings up for grabs.

5h agoPesce (lower body) is no longer using a walking boot and might be able to return during Carolina's upcoming second-round series against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports Wednesday.
Pesce had three goals, 13 points, 20 PIM, 25 hits and 113 blocks in 70 regular-season outings. The 29-year-old is likely to serve in a top-four capacity once he's healthy.

5h agoDeAngelo's (wrist) x-rays came back negative and the blueliner is expected to be available for Game 1 against the Rangers, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports Wednesday.
DeAngelo played in the last three games for the Canes while Brett Pesce (lower body) was unavailable. For now, DeAngelo should be in the lineup for Game 1, whenever it is announced, but will likely be relegated to the press box once Pesce, who is expected to return at some point versus New York, is cleared to play.

5h agoPeeke (finger) is a "couple weeks away" from returning, coach Jim Montgomery told Conor Ryan of The Boston Globe on Wednesday.
Peeke had a goal, 10 points, 14 PIM, 88 hits and 78 blocks in 38 contests between Columbus and Boston during the regular season. His timetable rules him out for the remainder of the first round, but Peeke might be an option later in the playoffs if the Bruins advance. Boston holds a 3-2 series lead over Toronto heading into Game 6 on Thursday.

Carlo has a goal, a plus-2 rating, four PIM, nine hits and 11 blocks in five playoff contests this year. He missed the overtime period in Boston's 2-1 loss to Toronto in Game 5 on Tuesday and wasn't on the ice for Wednesday's practice, but coach Jim Montgomery has nevertheless stated that the defenseman will be good to remain in the lineup versus the Leafs.
